cow nipples in full bloom

The runway starts the primary introduction of new styles and innovative fashions. Perhaps it also serves as a purpose to make a statement about global issues - or to spark controversy.

nipple-dress-sparks-controversy-at-london-fashion-week/.
Rachel Freire showcased a dress made of... um 3000 cow nipples during London Fashion Week, and many people were outraged by it. Her counterargument was that she was reducing waste, for cow nipples were normally considered as waste products. She also mentioned that it came from the same source as the leather used to make fashion goods anyway.

Although I was taken aback by the use of cow nipples to construct the dress, I did not feel upset about Rachel's unique choice of material. Cows are used for food, and the leather from the cows are used to make various fashion items. As Rachel mentioned, the nipples are just leather that goes to waste because people don't know what to do with it. Therefore, I think it is a creative approach to reduce leather waste, and I admire her attempt to find purposes for things that are considered as "waste products" - as unorthodox as that cow-nipple dress might be.

What's your stance on Rachel Freire's "controversial" gown?

  2. Wow great blog! That is a real original idea to make an outfit out of cow's nipples. You do have a very good point that although it is not common to use the nipples of the cow, it is no different than using the leather or eating a steak. And you really need to give credit to the originality of the design.

  3. Holy cow! Literally. As an animal lover I’m not a fan of fur because we are not using the animal for other purposes besides using their fur for clothing. However, I have no problem with the use of leather or suede from cows because since we are using the cow for meat it would be a waste to throw away the hide. I like Rachel Freire’s unique twist on reducing the waste. Although I wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing this dress because I think it would feel awkward, I think that the dress is super cute!
    PS. Love your blog ☺

  4. Oh my... Seriously? I never thought of other function of cow nipples other than milking. Although it sounds awkward, it's a creative idea to reduce the waste. As long as the leather is good to use, it would probably be in fashion line someday.
